The moon is up to the right of the middle winter tree, and the title was influenced by some poetry that I was reading at the time.
This was my first experimentation with purely representational oil painting.
I'd used the oil paint so thickly in the foreground that it cracked and peeled off. So, I destroyed this painting, amongst many others, and started my obsessive journey in practising technically sound oil painting techniques. The Silence of the Browsing moon

What was positive about this piece for me was the contrast achievable with the minimal palette of black and white.

A pivotal piece for me because, although I have been influenced by many British and American Artists, I had never really understood the French Impressionists until I had made this piece. Now I was understanding and appreciating the beauty of an individual mark - left to speak for itself - made with oil paint.2014

A stand alone abstracted piece which ultimately proved artistically unsatifying as far too cerebral for me. Paint can be far more than a series of abstracted symbols.
